January 6, 2006Edit

Stephen Colbert returned for a second appearance on Conan O'Brien on January 6, 2006. He made his entrance to to the song "I Want Candy" by The Strangeloves, a reference to his stint as cast member on Strangers With Candy, a cult comedy show which aired on Comedy Central and was later turned into a feature film, thats release Colbert was on the show to promote.

Conan started the interview by talking about Colbert's appearance in Time Magazine's special annual issue The 100 Most Influential People in the World. Colbert commented that he was positioned in a "sexy sandwich" between Bono and Katie Couric on the cover of the magazine. He also joked that if there are 6.5 billion people in the world, he therefore must personally represent 65 million people as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Next, they talked about Colbert's position as a Sunday School teacher in his Catholic church. He sang some examples of spirituals he might teach the children, as well as displaying his famous "King of Glory" dance.

BitEdit

Stephen: Look, I just think that Rosa Parks was overrated.

Conan: Rosa Parks was overrated? Th-th-th…that’s madness!

Stephen: Conan, last time I checked she got famous for breaking the law.

Conan: Breaking the law? She was standing up for a whole race of people! She was a freedom-fighter!

Stephen: Conan, how do I know if there was an old sick white man who needed that seat at the front of the bus.

Conan: How can you say that?!

Stephen: Conan, I’m gonna keep saying this until Rosa Parks’s children apologize for what their mother did to that bus company.

Conan: You want Rosa Parks’s children to apologize?!

Stephen: Absolutely.

Conan: [pulling out pistol] Oh... oh… I… have no choice. [shoots Colbert in the chest]

Stephen: [knocked back, blood on his shirt, suddenly springs up again] Typical east-coast ivy-league educated response!

Conan: We’ll take a break. We’ll be right back.

Stephen: Look, I respect your right to disagree with me, don’t get me wrong.

Conan: I shot you very near the heart!
